Daniel
The Honorable

Daniel "Dan" Sanchez

District Court Judge
1st Judicial District
Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, and Santa Fe Counties

Year: 2002

Recommendation: No Opinion

Election Results: Retained

Evaluation: Judge Daniel Sanchez received low ratings from the court staff and attorneys in the areas of carrying out his administrative responsibilities diligently, his promptness in scheduling hearings and trials, and maintaining appropriate hours given his workload. However, Judge Sanchez faced a series of personal problems and tragedies during this period that adversely affected his performance. Judge Sanchez is serving in a new capacity on the court that he maintains has had a positive effect on his performance. He has also represented to the Commission that he has made efforts to deal constructively with the impact his personal issues have had on his judicial performance. Since there has not been enough time for these new developments to be evaluated with regard to his judicial performance, the Commission has NO OPINION as to the retention of Judge Sanchez.

Experience & Education: Judge Sanchez was elected to the First Judicial District Court in November of 1998. Prior to going on the bench, Judge Sanchez held positions with the Department of Education, the New Mexico State Land Office and the State Engineer's Office. Judge Sanchez was also in private practice. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1970 and the Antioch School of Law in 1976.
