Jennifer L. Attrep
The Honorable

Jennifer L. Attrep

Court of Appeals Judge
Statewide

Year: 2024

Recommendation: Retain

Election Results: Retained

Evaluation: Judge Jennifer Attrep was rated highly in many areas by the court staff, district judges, and her fellow appellate judges and justices. In addition, lawyers rated her positively for conducting herself in a manner free from impropriety, for treating all courtroom participants with respect, for maintaining professional demeanor in the courtroom, and for being prepared for oral arguments and court proceedings. There was an area of concern among lawyers that the merits of the legal issues were not always addressed clearly, and there were also concerns with timeliness in writing opinions. Judge Attrep indicated that she has taken steps to address the timeliness issue.

Experience & Education: Judge Jennifer Attrep was appointed to the New Mexico Court of Appeals in 2018 and was subsequently elected later that year. Prior to her appointment to the Court of Appeals, she served as a district court judge in the First Judicial District beginning in September 2014 through February 2018. She worked in private practice before that. She also served as a law clerk for a federal district judge in Washington, DC. Judge Attrep received her undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary in 1999 and her law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2006.
