Evaluation: The Rules Governing the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission allow for an evaluation of a judge only if a judge has served at least two years in the current position or has sufficient data to achieve a statistically valid sample. Judge Maria Sanchez-Gagne has served on the 1st Judicial District Court since December 2018, which does not allow enough time or sufficient data for the Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission to evaluate her prior to the November 2020 election.
Experience & Education: Judge Maria Sanchez-Gagne was elected to the 1st Judicial District Court in November 2018. Judge Sanchez-Gagne received her undergraduate degree from UNM and her law degree from the University of Denver. Prior to judge’s election, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney-1st Judicial District Attorney’s Office from 1996 to 2000, as an Assistant Attorney-New Mexico Attorney General from 2000 to 2015, and an ADR Officer/Hearing Examiner-NM Office of the State Engineer from 2015 to 2018. She is a member of the NM Human Trafficking Taskforce, Justice for Families Pro-Bono, Hispanic Bar Association, and 1st District Bar Association.
