For example, attorneys rated her well for treating self-represented litigants fairly, being attentive to the proceedings, and for her courteousness to all participants. The court staff rated her highly for respecting all court employees, displaying a sense of fairness, and for having a dignified demeanor. The resource staff (e.g. law enforcement officers, social workers, etc.) gave her positive scores for displaying familiarity with court cases through prior preparation, maintaining proper control over the courtroom, and for discharging responsibilities diligently. Experience & Education: Judge Jewell was appointed in February 1996 and elected in November 1996. She presides over criminal, family law, and domestic violence cases. Prior to being appointed, she was the Special Commissioner of Domestic Violence cases for the 2nd Judicial District from 1988 to 1996 and the Legal Aid Domestic Violence Coordinator from 1985 to 1988. She served in private practice for seven years handling domestic relations cases. Judge Jewell received both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of New Mexico.
