Evaluation: Judge Dean received positive ratings among attorneys and court staff. Attorneys rated him highly for his knowledge of the law, fair treatment of self-represented litigants, maintaining proper control over the proceedings, and attentiveness to the proceedings. The court staff rated him positively for maintaining appropriate hours, conducting himself in a proper manner, and for discharging responsibilities diligently. However, the resource staff (e.g. law enforcement officers, probation officers, etc.) gave him somewhat lower ratings. Specifically, this group rated him relatively lower when it comes to treating all participants equally and displaying a sense of fairness. Judge Dean indicated that he is committed to maintaining and improving his overall judicial performance.
Experience & Education: Judge Dean was appointed District Judge in February 2003 and elected in 2004. Prior to his appointment, he worked in private practice from 1977 to 2003. Judge Dean is active in various community and professional organizations. He received his undergraduate degree and his law degree from the University of New Mexico.
