Evaluation: Overall, Judge Benjamin Chavez had positive results. For example, attorneys rated him highly for being courteous to all participants, demonstrating appropriate demeanor on the bench, and for being attentive to the proceedings. In addition, the court staff rated him positively in all areas. In fact, when compared to his previous evaluation in 2017, his scores improved on every attribute among both the attorneys and the court staff.

Experience & Education: Judge Benjamin Chavez was elected in 2012. He started his judicial career in 2004 when he was appointed to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court and served until he was elected to the District Court. In addition, he worked as an Assistant District Attorney, an Assistant City Attorney, and as a private attorney practicing both criminal and civil law. Judge Chavez received his undergraduate degree from UNM and his law degree from the UNM School of Law in 1996.
