Evaluation: Judge Martinez received generally positive ratings from the populations surveyed. Among attorneys, he scored well on treating self-represented litigants fairly, being attentive to the proceedings, and for his dignified demeanor. The court staff rated him well for conducting himself in a proper manner, displaying a sense of fairness, and for respecting and cooperating with other judges. Among resource staff (e.g. law enforcement officers), he scored well for being courteous to all participants and for conducting himself in a proper manner. However, attorneys rated Judge Martinez slightly lower when it comes to punctuality in commencing proceedings and his knowledge and application of the law. In addition, the court staff rated the judge lower for punctuality in commencing proceedings and maintaining appropriate hours given the workload. Judge Martinez has indicated a willingness to improve his performance in these areas.
Experience & Education: Judge Martinez was appointed in September 2005 and elected in November 2006. He presides over criminal cases. Prior to being appointed, he was the Assistant and Deputy District Attorney in the Second, Eighth and Eleventh Judicial Districts. He is involved with the American Bar Association and the Association of Drug Court Professionals. Judge Martinez received his undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of New Mexico.
