Evaluation: Judge Butkus gets mixed reviews from persons utilizing his courtroom. He received positive scores from attorneys for having a dignified demeanor, being attentive to the proceedings, and for being courteous to all participants. The court staff and resource staff (e.g. law enforcement and probation officers) rated him positively for conducting himself in a proper manner and for his dignified demeanor. However, lawyers rated the judge lower for not always ruling on motions or cases in a timely manner and for not always being able to quickly and decisively rule on procedural and substantive matters. Court staff and lawyers also rated him slightly lower for not being prompt in scheduling hearings and for not being punctual in commencing proceedings.

Experience & Education: Judge Butkus was appointed to the bench in 2005. Prior to his appointment, he served as a law clerk for the Court of Appeals and in private practice. He presides over criminal cases. Judge Butkus is active in various civic and professional organizations. Judge Butkus received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law.
