Evaluation: Overall, Judge Emilio Chavez’s evaluation was quite positive. Attorneys rated him highly for treating all courtroom participants with respect, ensuring that participants understand the court proceedings, treating self-represented parties fairly, and for ensuring his personal staff is professional, productive, and knowledgeable of court policies and procedures. The court staff, resource staff (e.g., law enforcement officers, CASA volunteers, CYFD, interpreters, etc.), and jurors rated him positively on all attributes.
Experience & Education: Judge Emilio Chavez was appointed as a District Court Judge in 2015 and subsequently elected the following year. He graduated in 2001 from Grinnell College and in 2004 received his law degree from the UNM School of Law. Judge Chavez was an Assistant Attorney for the 8th Judicial District Attorney’s office from 2006 to 2015, and an attorney in private practice from 2004 to 2006. Judge Chavez is currently an assistant baseball coach.
