The New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC)
was created by the Supreme Court of New Mexico to improve the performance of judges and provide useful, credible information to voters on judges standing for retention.
In 2026, JPEC will be making recommendations to voters on 43 judges standing for retention, including two Supreme Court justices, one Court of Appeals judge, 32 District Court judges and eight Metropolitan Court judges. We will release our recommendations to voters on or before September 18, 2026, so please check back!

You Can Vote for Judges in Two Places
Please note there are two places to vote for judges on this year’s ballot. Judicial candidates running in a partisan election (identified by party) typically appear near the top of the ballot, and judges standing for retention (who are not running against another candidate) typically appear near the bottom of the ballot in a section labeled retention.
