2012: New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission Announces Appointments Of Two New Members

ALBUQUERQUE—The New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC) has announced the appointments of Larry Langley of Albuquerque and Anna M. Aragon of Las Vegas as new members.

JPEC was established by the Supreme Court of New Mexico in 1997 as a volunteer, nonpartisan commission to improve the performance of New Mexico’s judges and provide useful, credible information to voters on judges standing for retention elections.

Larry Langley is the Chief Executive Officer for the New Mexico Business Roundtable, a statewide association of executives of leading state companies, small business owners and executives of trade organizations representing more than 300,000 employees throughout the state. Previously, Langley led the Middle Rio Grande Business & Education Collaborative, a regional business and education organization similar to the Business Roundtable.

Langley holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Dallas Baptist University, a Master in Education degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Master in Business Administration degree from Yale University.

He currently serves as chair of the Hispanic Education Advisory Council, chair of the Governor’s Early Learning Advisory Council, and is a member of the Public Education Funding Formula Task Force. He also serves on the boards of numerous other organizations, including the New Mexico Association of Commerce & Industry, Economic Forum and the Albuquerque Business Issues Council.

Anna M. Aragon is a native of New Mexico and has had her own law practice since 1984, specializing in criminal defense and domestic relations. She began her career in child support enforcement and later worked for two years in the District Attorney’s Office. She has also served as a lecturer in law with the University of New Mexico’s Misdemeanor Defense Program. Aragon is a graduate of the University of New Mexico School of Law and is an avid skier and golfer.

The New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission is comprised of 15 individuals – seven lawyers and eight non-lawyers—who are appointed by the Supreme Court to staggered terms. Members are selected from nominations made by the Governor, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Speaker of the House, Senate President Pro Tempore, House Minority Leader, Senate Minority Leader and President of the State Bar.
